You know that

Basil is one of the most important aromatic herbs, originally from Asia, which came to Europe centuries ago, and has been cultivated both in Europe and in Asia for a very long time.
Its botanical name is Ocymum basilicum and there are more than 60 species.
In cooking, basil is typically used in Italian cuisine and Asian cuisines in Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, due to the marked scent of its leaves, which depending on the variety can be more or less sweet or pungent. Fresh and raw leaves are used which thus maintain all their aromatic flavor.

When dry out basil loses a lot because the leaves lose almost all of their scent, and the finished product retains only a slight hay aroma, which is not entirely pleasant.
At the officinal level, the leaves and the flowering tops are used to prepare infusions with a sedative, antispastic action of the digestive tract, stomachic and diuretic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory.

With its balanced flavours, it is a perfect ingredient for tasty aperitifs and hors d’oeuvres, our Siciliano pesto is an exquisite condiment for our spaghetti and linguine. You may also use it to season salads or as a dip.
