Pesce spada e gelsi neri, 200g

This unusual combination between swordfish and black mulberries creates a delicious and very delicate product, where the full flavour of the swordfish meat is enhanced by the sweet and slightly sour aftertaste of the mulberry jam. Perfect as appetizer or side dish.

You know that

The swordfish (Xiphias gladius) is found in the Mediterranean Sea but also in tropical, subtropical and temperate zones of all oceans. It predominantly inhabits surface waters between 18 and 22 °C, but can descend to 800 m. The swordfish has a fusiform body, cylindrical in section, which narrows at the back. Its best known and most striking feature is the large development of the upper jaw, which forms the typical ‘sword’, flattened and sharp and about 1/3 the length of the body.
A very fast swimmer, it also migrates over ocean distances. It has solitary habits but is sometimes found in pairs. In the Strait of Messina, a characteristic and ancient type of harpoon fishing is carried out using special boats called feluccas, equipped with a tall central mast with a crow’s nest at the top for spotting the fish and a long gangway at the top of the prow on which the harpooner stands, so that he can be on top of the prey before it can hear the sound of the engines.

Widespread in ancient centuries in China, where they were also used in the practice of silkworm cultivation, and in Asia Minor, today the presence of mulberry fruit trees is rather rare and the specimens present are often very old. It can now be classified among the rare and forgotten fruits.
In the kitchen, black mulberries are used for the preparation of preserves and recipes with a sweet, irresistible flavour.
What makes mulberries a panacea for health are their fundamental components: the blackberries of these plants have a low calorie intake and an important iron content, as well as significant amounts of manganese, potassium and magnesium and vitamins C, B and K. They are also rich in antioxidant substances such as anthocyanins, flavonoids and resvetarol.

This Pesce spada e gelsi neri is a perfect solution for an unusual apetitif, as appetizer or a side dish.  We suggest avoiding combining it with other flavours that might eliminate the taste and freshness of black mulberries.
