Pesto Est, 180g

Simple, high quality and strong in flavour Sicilian ingredients are used for our Est pesto including sun-dried tomatoes, green olives, oregano, basil, just to mention a few. The result is a perfectly balanced, delicious, fresh and versatile pesto which can be used to season pasta and also as a dip.






You know that

Sun and salt are two elements that are not lacking in Sicily and generally all around the Mediterranean. Tomatoes also abound. They are a source of valuable nutrients, especially potassium, phosphorus, vitamin C, vitamin K and folate. The mineral component is also conspicuous: iron, zinc, selenium, phosphorus and calcium combined with citrates, tartrates and nitrates act in synergy to ensure remineralising and anti-radical properties. Also moderate is the content of organic acids, such as malic, citric, succinic and gluteninic, useful for aiding digestion. The red colour of tomatoes is due to an antioxidant called lycopene.

Tomatoes are rich in water, which makes up more than 94%; carbohydrates account for almost 3%, while proteins are calculated at around 1.2%, fibres at 1% and, lastly, fats account for only 0.2%. Therefore, one hundred grams of fresh tomatoes provide only 17 Kcal.


Although the tomato entered Italian and Mediterranean cuisine relatively late – compared to other vegetables imported from the Americas – it soon became a staple of the Mediterranean diet. Summer is the right time to harvest them. The warm sun favours full ripening. It is the right time to dry them naturally in the sun, possibly with a trellis over them. Slow drying in the sun allows them to lose their vegetation water, until they are dry and have a strong flavour. Dried tomatoes are thus perfect for seasoning bruschettas, but also to enrich a pesto. They are also excellent in salads or in the preparation of many first courses.

Est is a perfect complement to season our pasta, but you can also use it to accompany croutons, vegetables and meat.

·        Store in a cool, dry place at a temperature of around 10°. Once opened, cover with oil, keep in the fridge and consume within 4/5 days.
